EPS-SG Data Circulation Test Engineer

CLC Space is currently recruiting a EPS-SG Data Circulation Test Engineer to provide consultancy support at their client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany.

JOB DESCRIPTION

To provide consultancy support for the EPS-SG (EUMETSAT Polar System - Second Generation) programme at EUMETSAT.
Support is sought in the field of system engineering to contribute to the verification and validation (V&V) of the EPS Second Generation (EPS-SG) System. The work is related to the generation of test specifications and procedures for the end-to-end processing chain as well as for the specification and development of related in-house tools needed for test data generation and test data analysis required to support system and ground segment V&V activities. The focus of the task is to prepare and coordinate the system data circulation tests as well as support the V&V manager for the overall planning and coordination of the V&V activities.
You will support the EPS-SG system team in the Low Earth Orbit division (LEO) at EUMETSAT.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The activities performed will be an input for the overall system and ground segment V&V activities. You will typically be involved in tasks related to the EPS-SG V&V activities with focus on the Data Circulation test

Typical tasks include:
• Create and maintain the EPS-SG IV&V system data circulation test plan, test specification and test procedures, test tools and test data.
• Coordinate and supervise the execution of the system data circulation tests (this includes coordination with external entities (ie. partners and industry) as well as EUMETSAT teams (e.g. OGS and MME teams, to harmonize tests with simulated and real external interfaces).
• For all relevant test activities consolidate the test results, generate test reports and perform the necessary analysis.
• Identification of the suite of test tools and test data required to support V&V activities.
• Contribution to the in-house development and validation of test tools and their maintenance.
• Support the acceptance of test tools / test data provided by partners (such as ESA, CNES, DLR), ie. instrument data simulator and ground processor prototype.
• Contribution to the preparation and execution of V&V tests of end-to-end processing chains, such as preparation of test specifications and procedures, test tools and test data

In addition you will be involved in some more general tasks:
• Development of test tool and test data.
• Participation in relevant internal and external meetings.
• Regular review of EPS-SG documentation dealing with requirements, system concepts, architecture and design, technical analyses, to identify information of importance for test tools / test data.
• In addition, and with the same aim, analysis of documents provided by other teams in EUMETSAT and by external partners.
• Support for the preparation of documentation for EPS-SG system level reviews. Some activities will involve interactions with other teams, primarily in the LEO division, and also, as relevant for the work, with engineers at partner agencies.

YOUR PROFILE

You shall have the following experience and background:
• University degree in the domain of engineering, physics or equivalent.
• Proven experience in the verification and validation of large complex systems, with at least 3 years of general experience with on-ground processing of data from satellite instruments for Earth observation.
• Hands-on involvement in data circulation V&V activities including generation of test plan, test specification, procedures and test reports for end-to-end processing chains.
• At least 3 years of experience with software specification, design and development and relevant standards.
• Some experience with definition and development of test tools and generation of test data sets.
• System requirements management and functional/architectural modelling, with support of tools (e.g. DOORS).
• Configuration Control processes and tools.
• Familiarity with the ECSS standards.

You shall have furthermore the following skills:
• be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision and systematic approach to work, be able to plan the work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks;
• be able to plan your work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks;
• ability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation;
• good skills in higher programming language (e.g. C++, Fortran,...);
• working with UNIX and Linux operating systems;
• good communication skills (verbal and written) and be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language, knowledge of French being an advantage.
