EPS-SG System End to End M&C Engineer

CLC Space is currently recruiting an EPS-SG System End to End M&C Engineer to provide consultancy support at their client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Consultancy support is sought in the field of system engineering to contribute to the definition and design of EPS second generation (EPS-SG). The consultant shall support the EPS-SG System Team in the Low Earth Orbit Division (LEO) at EUMETSAT and be involved in supporting the phase C/D system engineering activities related to the specification, design and development of the EPS-SG system. The support will focus mainly in the area of satellite and operational related aspects
The current targeted launch of the first satellites is in 2021 and 2022.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The activities for this consultancy will include overall system aspects involving the space
segment (satellites) and the ground segment, consisting of the data acquisition systems,
monitoring and control systems, data processing facilities and product dissemination
facilities. The focus for the consultant will be on Satellite and operational related aspects
within the system.

The tasks and responsibilities of the consultant to be undertaken will typically include the
following:
• Ensuring that operational aspects (from operations concept etc) are adequately reflected
in the system technical specifications and design.
• Provide input and support to the customisation of the Packet Utilisation Standard (PUS)
specific to EPS-SG and documentation of the results.
• Provide input and support to the customisation of other satellite related ECSS standards
• Provide input to the Space to ground ICD and ensure that the system design and
operations match with the satellite data storage and retrieval concepts.
• Follow up of actions arising from the Space segment that have system impacts.

Provide support to general system engineering activities:
• Analysis and trade off activities
• Preparation and maintenance of system technical specification.
• Documentation of system design and justification
• Ad hoc internal reviews
• System level formal reviews.
• Ground segment level activities as required
• Support IV&V activities

These activities will involve interactions with other EUMETSAT divisions. Travel within
Europe, to the United States and possibly other parts of the world may have to be undertaken
for certain tasks.

YOUR PROFILE

You shall have the following experience and background:
• University degree in the domain of engineering, science, or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of experience in the field of engineering of space and/or ground systems, in the area of Low-Earth Orbiting satellites (LEO), including the development of monitoring and control systems for polar satellites.
• Experience of Satellite Monitoring and Control using ECSS PUS standards services.
• Capability to prepare system requirements and design documents, and to perform system level analyses for complex polar satellite systems.

The following experience would be additional assets:
• Familiarity with the CORE design tool (from Vitech).
• Experience with DOORs.

You shall be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan your work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. You shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Good communication skills (verbal and written) are important. You shall be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies.

Fluency in English (the working language at EUMETSAT is English.). Knowledge of French would be an advantage.
