EPS-SG Test Data and Test Tools Consultant

CLC Space is currently recruiting an EPS-SG Test Data & Test Tools Consultant to provide consultancy support at their client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany.

JOB DESCRIPTION

To provide consultancy support for the EPS-SG (EUMETSAT Polar System - Second Generation) programme at EUMETSAT. Support is sought in the field of system engineering to contribute to the verification and validation (V&V) of the EPS Second Generation (EPS-SG) System. The work is related to the definition, specification and development of test tools and the generation of test data which are required to support system and ground segment V&V activities. This may include in-house development activities as well as the procurement of test tools / test data sets from external entities. The focus of the tasks is on test tools / test data needed for V&V of chains for processing of instrument data. You will be a member of the EPS-SG system team in the Low Earth Orbit division (LEO) at EUMETSAT.

The tasks will be carried out at our client's facilities in Darmstadt, as required, you shall be occasionally required to attend reviews and progress
meetings held outside EUMETSAT premises.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

You shall provide consultancy for the overall system and ground segment V&V activities. You will typically be involved in tasks related to test tools / test data, with focus on test data and test tool required for V&V of on-ground data processing chains. Tools can serve for example the purpose of test data generation / manipulation / reformatting / inspection, test data injection into the ground segment and test data collection & analysis.

Typical tasks include:
• Contribution to the in-house development and validation of test data and their maintenance.
• Contribution to the in-house development and validation of test tools and their maintenance.
• Provide consultancy for the consolidation of the development logic for test tools / test data and compilation of the associated schedule.
• Provide consultancy for procurements of test tools / test data, including the analysis of received deliverables and attending acceptance tests.
• Provide consultancy for acceptance of test tools / test data provided by partners (such as ESA, CNES, DLR).
• Provide consultancy for the simulation of test data sets for V&V using available tools; generation of test data sets using real data from satellite and instrument on-ground tests or in-orbit operation.
• Provide consultancy for the implementation of an infrastructure to host test tools and test data.
• Provide consultancy for configuration management of tools / test data sets, using applicable EUMETSAT processes.
• Provide consultancy for the preparation of V&V tests of processing chains, such as preparation of test specifications and procedures, specifically for aspects related to use of test tools and test data.
• Contribute to the execution of V&V tests of processing chains, specifically for the analysis of test results, inter alia using developed test analysis tools, with documentation of the results in test reports.

In addition, you shall be involved in some more general tasks:
• Participation in relevant internal and external meetings.
• Regular review of EPS-SG documentation dealing with requirements, system concepts, architecture and design, technical analyses, to identify information of importance for test tools and test data.
• In addition, and with the same aim, analysis of documents provided by other teams in EUMETSAT and by external partners.
• Support for the preparation of documentation for EPS-SG system level reviews.
Some activities will involve interactions with other teams, primarily in the LEO division, and, as relevant for the work, with engineers at partner agencies

YOUR PROFILE

You shall have the following experience and background:
1) University degree in the domain of engineering, physics or equivalent.
2) At least 3 years of general experience with on-ground processing of data from satellite instruments for Earth observation.
3) At least 3 years of hands-on involvement in V&V activities for on-ground processing chains, including production of test tools and of test data.
4) At least 3 years of experience with software specification, design and development and relevant standards.
The following experience would be an additional asset:
5) Direct involvement in preparation of test plans, specifications, procedures and reports.
You shall have furthermore the following skills:
6) be able to fulfil the assigned tasks without supervision,
7) have a systematic approach to work,
8) be able to plan your work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks,
9) have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation,
10) have good communication skills (verbal and written),
11) be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies.

The official languages are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language, knowledge of French being an advantage.
