Infrastructure Engineer

CLC Space is currently recruiting an Infrastructure Engineer to provide consultancy support at their client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany.

JOB DESCRIPTION

You will provide consultancy support to the Infrastructure Maintenance and Engineering Competency Area (IM&E CA).
The Infrastructure Maintenance and Engineering Competency Area (IM&E CA) within the GSI Division is responsible for the following:
 Managing the operations of the data centre facility aka Technical Infrastructure Building
 Space, power supply and cooling capacity planning and management,
 Installation of the related subsystems,
 Rack, server and network equipment installation,
 Cable plant and patch installation,
 Cable plant capacity planning and management
 Responsibility for the energy efficiency strategy and action plan (cooling and power supply)
 Operational asset inventory management including the disposal of obsolete material and asset lifecycle management
 Procurement of consumable materials to support operations
 Warehousing and logistics of consumables
 Initiating and managing MAC (modifications, additions, changes) projects related to the operational infrastructure
 Participating in projects managed by other organizational units as team members
 Managing projects/activities related to Mission Control Center (MCC) and Engineering Support Room/Operational Support Room (ESR/OSR) builds/refurbishments.
 Conducting preventive and corrective maintenance activity related to operational equipment.
 Responding to operational emergencies and anomalies
 Supporting the ICT team (responsible for general office IT) with desktop equipment installation and cabling based on internal SLA.
 Management of the infrastructure productivity tools such as iPatch and Struxurware DCIM

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Your tasks will include:
 Taking charge and full responsibility of infrastructure projects assigned by the Technical Infrastructure Manager from the infrastructure project portfolio. These projects can be migrations and relocations of existing infrastructure, building new infrastructure for future programmes, additions and enhancements to existing infrastructure elements such as video and workstations, new builds and changes to power and cooling infrastructure, fibre and copper cabling, rack assembly. Project management activity also includes defining the demand for external resources and the management thereof when on site.
 Responsibility for contributing to energy efficiency strategy and the implementation of
the energy efficiency action plan built upon the strategy
 Conducting communication of technical nature with contractors, suppliers and project
stakeholders.
 Supporting the IM&E CA Manager in project scheduling.
 Supporting IM&E CA Manager in project related procurements by sourcing different
materials and equipment and collecting price offers for these. This does not imply budget
responsibility for the incumbent.
 Properly using the Infrastructure productivity tools such as iPatch for cable management,
the Schneider Electric StruxtureWare DCIM package.
 Preparing design documents (technical notes in EUMETSAT terminology) for complex
projects that are assigned to or initiated by the GSI/IM&E CA.
 Preparing design drawings using Visio for the projects mentioned above.
 Perform hands-on tasks such as server, workstation, communication and video equipment
installation for existing and new operational programmes and moving material out and
into the Infrastructure storage areas.
 Outside peak periods when external resources are not available the Infrastructure
Engineer is required to carry out additional hands on tasks such as rack assembly, patch
cable installation, assisting in power box installation.

YOUR PROFILE

You shall have the following educational background and 5 to 10 years overall
working experience and 3 to 5 years specific experience in the areas mentioned bellow:
• Bachelor degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent working
experience.
• Familiarity with data centre infrastructure elements: power, cooling, space
management, racks, cabling and patching (copper and fibre).
• Familiarity with data centre operations procedures: access, security, maintenance
windows, mission critical processes, etc.
• Experience in coordinating simple projects (5-10 resources, project budget order of
magnitude up to 20K EUR).
• Good communications skills with external and internal resources and stakeholders.
• Business acumen to identify financially viable and sustainable technical solutions.
• User experience related to some current ERP or workflow management system such
as SAP, Oracle, Siebel or Remedy.
• Proficiency in work procedures related to server, workstation, communication
equipment installation as well as rack assembly, electrical installations, cabling,
patching and other maintenance activity around control and data centres.
• You must be a licensed electrician.
• Experience in a 24/7, mission critical environment.
The knowledge of a cabling management system and/or a DCIM system such as APC
Struxtureware , Nlyte, ABB Decathlon, Emerson Trellis is a distinct advantage.

The official languages are English and French. Therefore, good written and spoken English skills are necessary. The knowledge of French is considered an advantage.
