MHS and NOAA Instruments Engineer

CLC Space is currently recruiting a MHS and NOAA Instruments Engineer to provide consultancy support at their client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany.

JOB DESCRIPTION
To provide Engineering and Management consultancy support for the activities mainly related to the MHS Instrument and the instruments provided by NOAA to EUMETSAT as Customer Furnished Items (CFI) to the Instrument Team of the Low Earth Orbit Division at EUMETSAT.

The tasks will be carried out mainly at our client’s facilities in Darmstadt, but travel within Europe and possibly to the USA and French Guiana are to be expected.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support to MHS and NOAA Instruments Engineering Activities
The MHS and NOAA Instruments Engineer, shall support the implementation of the instruments project and shall deliver to the LEO Instrument Team Leader.
The tasks of the MHS and NOAA Instruments Engineer shall include the following:
• Participation to Metop satellite AIV, Launch and Commissioning activities relevant to the MHS and NOAA instruments, including operation of the MHS EGSE, data analysis, preparation of procedures and test reports (instrument ground testing at s/c
level, end-to-end testing at system level, satellite in-orbit verification).
• Maintenance of an up-to-date plan of Metop satellite AIV, Launch and Commissioning activities requiring support for the MHS and the NOAA instruments.
• Follow up all activities related to MHS carried out by the Airbus DS-UK and maintain a list of PDS activities and their status and expenditures.
• Follow up of all activities related to the NOAA instruments including AVHRR and SEM instruments on-ground calibration.
• Support in-orbit check-out / verification tests during Metop-C In Orbit Verification (IOV).
• Investigation of on-ground and in-orbit instrument anomalies and support operations to the relevant recovery actions.
• Provide general support to the Metop Operations Team for MHS and NOAA instruments matters.
• Analyse and assess both on-ground and in-orbit performances of MHS and NOAA instruments.
• Participation to instrument reviews and other meetings with industry and other partners such as ESA, NOAA/NASA.
• Maintenance of regular contacts with the above mentioned EUMETSAT partners and industry in relation to MHS and NOAA instruments.
• Maintenance of a status list of MHS action items, non-conformances/anomalies, requests for waivers and deviations.
• Preparation and maintenance of instrument related documents, as well as presentation material (e.g. Instrument Operational Manuals);

Support to other Instruments.
Although support to MHS and NOAA instruments is the primary task, you may be requested to provide a similar type of management and engineering support to the LEO Instrument Team Leader for other instruments.

YOUR PROFILE
You are required to have the following -
• The experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with the minimum of supervision and minimum training.
• A university degree in engineering or physics.
• A background of at least 5 years in space hardware projects possibly with Earth observation instruments.
• Experience in project management positions or some exposure to it.
• The ability to follow satellite level Payload AIV activities. • Some knowledge of PA/QA processes and procedures
• Good general computing skills with familiarity with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

The official languages of are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language.
