Network Consultancy Support during EPS-SG Ground Segment Development

CLC Space is currently recruiting a Network Engineer to provide consultancy support during the EPS-SG Ground Segment Development at their client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany.

JOB DESCRIPTION

To provide consultancy support covering the networking aspects in the ground segment associated with the next series of polar-orbiting satellites in the EPS Second Generation (EPS-SG) Programme.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

You will carry out activities related to ground segment networks, with a focus on the EPS-SG ground segment.
This will include the following tasks throughout the ground segment development lifecycle:

 Maintaining and evolving the Ground Segment network concept, and contributing to the Ground Segment design and development for all network-related aspects including specification, high level network system architecture and design, high-level network testing and roll-out strategy.
 For the parts of the ground segment under development by industry, supporting the ground segment team for all network-related matters.
 Defining and specifying the network services required by the ground segment. Support to the ground segment team with identifying their network use cases, identifying the associated data flows and specification of the data flow characteristics.
 Deriving, from the network services required by the ground segment, requirements for the evolution and upgrade of Operations Network Infrastructure (ONI) and services.
 Specifying and implementing the upgrades of Operations Network Infrastructure required for the ground segment.
 Specifying the overall ground segment logical network solution and configuring it on the ONI.
 Specifying a network verification test plan and test procedures. Performing verification testing of the ground segment network solution.
 Supporting the integration and validation of the network into the overall ground segment. - Supporting the management of the above mentioned network activities as a project, including contributing to planning, reporting, and risk and issue management.
 Participating in EPS-SG meetings at Overall Ground Segment and sub-segment level.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

You will support the Comms Team in the GSI Division. You will support, among others, the EPS-SG Overall Ground Segment (OGS) Team in the Low Earth Orbit Division (LEO) at EUMETSAT. More particularly you will support a project team tasked to provide a Ground Segment network. This project team, in the role of network supplier, interfaces with the Programme, in the role of network customer.

In carrying out the above tasks, you shall assume the following roles and responsibilities:

 Act towards the Ground Segment and System Teams as the prime technical point-of contact within the Comms team, dealing with networking aspects.
 Act as ground segment network system expert, overseeing all technical aspects.
 Work in a customer-supplier / line organisation matrix structure, reporting to the appointed customer representative(s) of the programme, as well as to the Comms supplier project team leader.
 Interact with sub-segment project teams developing and integrating the Ground Segment and System facilities, and their Industrial Contractors supporting them. Ensure that the Industrial Contractors understand the network solution and guide them in delivering a solution that matches the needs of the Operations Network Infrastructure.
 Support interfacing and liaising with third parties, e.g. vis-a-vis service providers and suppliers, for matters related to the services and/or products they supply.

In the performance of your tasks, you shall apply the EUMETSAT configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards, quality management procedures and maintenance procedures.

YOUR PROFILE

In addition to having a university degree (or equivalent), you shall have at least 5 years of proven knowledge and demonstrated skills and experience in the following mandatory areas:
 Understanding and specification of network use cases and needs.
 Translating these use cases and needs to requirements on network infrastructure, functions and systems.
 Specifying and deploying network functionality on a consolidated networking infrastructure.
 Applying the above skills in always-on production network environments, driven by high availability requirements.
 Interacting with suppliers of network products and services.
 Supporting procurements of network services.

The following is considered desirable:
 Currently valid Cisco certification or demonstrated equivalent knowledge/experience.
 Demonstrated capability to produce network system requirements specification, including document structuring/organisation, and technical network diagrams (e.g. in MS Visio).
 Ability to present - verbally and in writing
 complex (network) solutions and systems in a comprehensible way, with the specific ability to explain relevant details while keeping the focus on the overall system aspects. Ability to translate IT jargon into customer business terms.
 Working as in-house supplier to an internal business customer, working in a matrix environment.
 Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS-Visio.

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language.
