System Engineering Consultant

CLC Space is currently recruiting a System Engineer to provide consultancy support at their client’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany.

JOB DESCRIPTION

To provide consultancy to the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Division on system engineering and design activities. The consultant requires expert knowledge in several system engineering areas and disciplines covering requirements, architectural design and detailed definition of subsystems, and their functions, performance, interfaces and operations activities.

You will provide consultancy to a multi-disciplinary team reporting to the JasonCS System Manager.

The tasks will be carried out mainly at EUMETSAT facilities in Darmstadt as required, but travel within Europe and to the USA may be required for certain activities.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

You will carry out tasks which support activities typically related to Phase B/C of a space programme in the area of system design engineering and architecture definition.
You will provide consultancy to the Sentinel-6/Jason-CS project, with potential support to other LEO programmes.

You will perform system engineering activities such as:
• Justification of the system design including producing and maintaining any relevant analyses and budgets;
• General support to system engineering activities, for example: o Documentation of system design and interfaces.
• Support to the technical coordination with Partners.
• Support to segment level activities and reviews as required.
• Participate to System level formal reviews. In the performance of these tasks, you shall apply the EUMETSAT configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards and quality management procedures.

The actual work will be released and defined in terms of scope, period and tasks in individual Work Packages specifying deliverables.

YOUR PROFILE

You shall have a university degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks without supervision.
Knowledge and experience with the following is considered mandatory:

• At least 5 years demonstrated experience in the field of large scale systems engineering and architectural design;
• Demonstrated ability to analyse systems from an end-to-end perspective;
• Capability to prepare design documents, to perform system-level analyses and to produce and maintain technical budgets. Knowledge and experience with the following is considered an advantage:
• Experience in earth observation satellite-based projects, particularly in the areas of near real time data processing or spacecraft control systems;
• Experience with Model Based System Engineering with the support of dedicated tools (e.g. CORE);
• Space and ground system engineering processes and standards.

The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. You shall be in possession of sound interpersonal skills to conduct the responsibilities described above autonomously and without supervision, exhibiting good oral and written communications skills, analytical capabilities, and motivation.

While the official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French, the working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language.
